GED အောင်မြင်ပြီးနောက် တက္ကသိုလ်လျှောက်ထားခြင်း

GED စာမေးပွဲ အောင်မြင်သွားပြီဆိုရင်တော့ မိမိရဲ့ ပညာရေးခရီးလမ်း (Pathways) ကို ဆက်လက်လျှောက်လှမ်းဖို့ အဆင်သင့်ဖြစ်နေပါပြီ။ မြောက်အမေရိကတိုက် (US နဲ့ Canada) က တက္ကသိုလ်တွေ၊ ကောလိပ်တွေနဲ့ ကမ္ဘာတစ်ဝှမ်းက နိုင်ငံတကာ တက္ကသိုလ် အများစုက GED ကို အထက်တန်းအောင်လက်မှတ် (High School Diploma) အနေနဲ့ အပြည့်အဝ အသိအမှတ်ပြု လက်ခံကြပါတယ်။

၁။ ရွေးချယ်နိုင်သော ပညာရေးလမ်းကြောင်းများ (Educational Pathways)

GED အောင်ပြီးပါက အဓိကအားဖြင့် အောက်ပါ လမ်းကြောင်း ၂ ခုထဲကနေ ရွေးချယ်နိုင်ပါတယ် –

  • Community College (၂ နှစ်သင်တန်း) မှတဆင့် တက္ကသိုလ်သို့ ကူးပြောင်းခြင်း: ကျောင်းလခ သက်သာပြီး ဝင်ခွင့်ရရန် ပိုမိုလွယ်ကူပါတယ်။ Community College မှာ Associate Degree (၂ နှစ်) တက်ရောက်ပြီးနောက်၊ မိမိနှစ်သက်ရာ တက္ကသိုလ်ကို ပြောင်းရွှေ့ကာ (Transfer) နောက်ထပ် ၂ နှစ် ဆက်တက်ပြီး ဘွဲ့ (Bachelor’s Degree) ရယူနိုင်ပါတယ်။
  • University (၄ နှစ်သင်တန်း) သို့ တိုက်ရိုက်လျှောက်ထားခြင်း: မိမိရဲ့ GED ရမှတ် ကောင်းမွန်မယ်ဆိုရင် (အထူးသဖြင့် College Ready အဆင့်များရရှိထားပါက) ၄ နှစ်သင်တန်း တက္ကသိုလ်ကြီးတွေကို တိုက်ရိုက် လျှောက်ထားနိုင်ပါတယ်။ သို့သော် တက္ကသိုလ်တစ်ခုနဲ့တစ်ခု ဝင်ခွင့်သတ်မှတ်ချက်များ (Admission Requirements) ကွာခြားနိုင်ပါတယ်။

၂။ တက္ကသိုလ်လျှောက်ထားရာတွင် လိုအပ်နိုင်သည့် အခြားအရာများ

GED ဟာ အထက်တန်းအောင်လက်မှတ်အတွက်သာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ တက္ကသိုလ်ဝင်ခွင့်ရဖို့ဆိုရင် အခြား လိုအပ်ချက်တွေကိုလည်း ဖြည့်ဆည်းထားဖို့ လိုအပ်ပါတယ် –

  • အင်္ဂလိပ်စာ အရည်အချင်းစစ် (English Proficiency Test): နိုင်ငံတကာကျောင်းသားဖြစ်တဲ့အတွက် IELTS, TOEFL သို့မဟုတ် Duolingo စတဲ့ အင်္ဂလိပ်စာ အရည်အချင်းစစ် အမှတ်ကောင်းကောင်း လိုအပ်ပါတယ်။
  • Standardized Tests (တက္ကသိုလ်အချို့အတွက်သာ): အချို့သော နာမည်ကြီး တက္ကသိုလ်တွေက SAT သို့မဟုတ် ACT အမှတ်တွေ တောင်းတတ်ပါတယ်။
  • Personal Statement (သို့) Essay: မိမိဘာကြောင့် ဒီတက္ကသိုလ်နဲ့ ဒီဘာသာရပ်ကို တက်ရောက်ချင်တာလဲဆိုတာကို ရေးသားရတဲ့ အက်ဆေးဖြစ်ပြီး ဝင်ခွင့်နဲ့ ပညာသင်ဆု (Scholarship) ရရှိဖို့ အလွန်အရေးကြီးပါတယ်။
  • ထောက်ခံစာများ (Letters of Recommendation): မိမိရဲ့ ဆရာ/ဆရာမတွေဆီက ထောက်ခံစာများ လိုအပ်နိုင်ပါတယ်။

၃။ GED ရမှတ်ဖြင့် ဘာသာရပ်ကင်းလွတ်ခွင့် (College Credit) ရနိုင်ပါသလား။

ရနိုင်ပါတယ်။ အကယ်၍ မိမိရဲ့ GED ရမှတ်ဟာ ၁၇၅ – ၂၀၀ ကြား (GED® College Ready + Credit အဆင့်) မှာ ရှိနေမယ်ဆိုရင် တက္ကသိုလ်အချို့မှာ အများဆုံး ၁၀ ခရက်ဒစ် (10 College Credits) အထိ ကင်းလွတ်ခွင့် ရနိုင်ပါတယ်။ (ဥပမာ – သင်္ချာ ၃ ခရက်ဒစ်၊ သိပ္ပံ ၃ ခရက်ဒစ် စသဖြင့်)။ ဒါဟာ မိမိရဲ့ အချိန်နဲ့ ကျောင်းလခကို များစွာ သက်သာစေပါတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် ခရက်ဒစ်ပေး/မပေး ဆိုတာက မိမိလျှောက်ထားမယ့် တက္ကသိုလ်ရဲ့ မူဝါဒအပေါ်မှာ အပြည့်အဝ မူတည်ပါတယ်။

College Readiness and Pathways After GED

Once you have passed the GED test, you are ready to continue your educational journey. The vast majority of universities and colleges in North America (the US and Canada), as well as many international universities, fully recognize the GED credential as equivalent to a high school diploma.

1. Educational Pathways

After earning your GED, you generally have two main pathways to consider:

  • Community College (2-Year Transfer Pathway): This is often a more affordable and accessible option. You can earn an Associate Degree in two years at a community college and then transfer those credits to a 4-year university to complete your Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Direct Entry to a 4-Year University: If you have strong GED scores (especially in the College-Ready ranges), you can apply directly to 4-year universities. Keep in mind that admission requirements vary significantly from one institution to another.

2. Additional Requirements for College Admissions

The GED satisfies the high school graduation requirement, but you will likely need to fulfill other criteria to gain university admission:

  • English Proficiency Tests: As an international student, you must demonstrate your English skills through tests like IELTS, TOEFL, or Duolingo.
  • Standardized Tests (Some Universities): Certain universities may still require SAT or ACT scores, though many are moving towards test-optional policies.
  • Personal Statement / Essay: A strong essay explaining why you want to attend the university and study your chosen major is crucial for admission and scholarship opportunities.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Most universities will ask for reference letters from your teachers or mentors.

3. Can I get College Credit with my GED scores?

Yes, it is possible. If your GED score falls in the 175 – 200 range (GED® College Ready + Credit level), you may qualify to receive up to 10 college credits at certain institutions (e.g., 3 credits in Math, 3 in Science). This can save you significant time and tuition fees. However, awarding credit is entirely up to the policies of the specific college or university you are applying to.
